Red Bridge Retreat Bed & Breakfast Gallery
Below are photos of the house and environs ...
Red Bridge Retreat is located on a quiet yet easily accessible street that terminates at the millrace. The location is half a mile from Goshen College and Goshen Hospital, a mile from Greencroft, and a mile from Goshen's lively downtown area. Parking is available on site for cars and bicycles.
Jerry Lapp established Red Bridge Retreat more than 15 years ago to welcome visitors to Goshen from around the world.
Proprietor Jerry Lapp is a ceramic and visual artist, carpenter, and spiritual director. He constructed these gates to lead into the shady, comfortable yard of the home he and Alma share with a variety of plants and wildlife.
The bed and breakfast is named for this bridge, for decades a feature of millrace navigation.
Canoeing to and from Red Bridge Retreat is a fine way to see the millrace and enjoy the greener life in the city.
Red Bridge Retreat is located just less than a mile south of the Elkhart River Dam - accessed via a lovely walk or cycle path, with views of birds and turtles and other water-seeking wildlife, wooded areas, a small local farm, and quiet surprises.
Visitors from across North America and at least a dozen countries have stayed at Red Bridge Retreat while visiting Goshen - including as a destination! Writers, organizational leaders, yoga teachers, professors, artists, musicians and others seeking a quiet, inspiring space have taken retreats here.
The yard surrounding the historic home along the millrace is extraordinarily leafy in spring, summer, and fall (guests are not asked to rake leaves, of course, but simply to admire the colors!)
The front porch, which looks over the yard and millrace beyond, welcomes visitors to a gentle porch swing or chairs.
This historic Goshen home is lovingly cared for by Jerry and Alma, who make updates to the home with an eye to earth-friendly while keeping guest comfort in mind. The home reflects Jerry's life in the arts, including many examples of his ceramic work, and Alma's Ireland hospitality.
Jerry and Alma are happy to provide a simple continental breakfast for an additional fee, and can typically accommodate special dietary requests if made in advance.
The Irish Room reflects Alma's national heritage and features an adjoining study that may also be used as an additional sleeping area (with a thick pull-out futon mattress) for families.
The French Room welcomes morning light and cheerfully nods to Jerry's travel in France.
Jerry's studio work and ceramic teaching take place at the Clay Artist Guild, located in the Goshen Farmer's Market complex on the millrace in downtown Goshen, a mile south of Red Bridge Retreat.
